Parent/Guardian/Care Provider Participation Policy
The Cape Cod Challenger Club (CCCC) was created to provide opportunities for children and adults with physical and/or developmental disabilities to actively participate year round in team sports and other group recreational activities. The emphasis of the program is placed on active participation and NOT on competition.
In order to ensure that we provide a safe and positive environment for all participants we request that all parents/guardians/care providers adhere to the following guidelines:
Parents/guardians/care providers must remain on site of the activity at all times.
Parents/guardians/care providers should notify a board member or volunteer coach of any behavior of the participant that could be harmful or injurious to the participant or others; i.e. biting, running away, or hitting.
Parents/guardians/care providers should notify a board member or volunteer coach of any specific concerns regarding the participant’s physical or developmental abilities that could affect the participant’s enjoyment; i.e. difficulty tolerating the wearing of protective gear and helmets, need for a particular communication method.
CCCC volunteers will not restrain any player. An adult volunteer may intercede when there is an apparent imminent threat of physical harm or injury to a player, buddy or coach.
Parents/guardians/care providers are expected to intercede when they observe their participant’s behavior escalating to a level that interferes with another player’s enjoyment of the activity, or could result in harm or injury to the participant or to another participant, buddy or coach.
Parents/guardians/care providers are expected to encourage good sportsmanship and demonstrate respect for all participants including players, buddies, and coaches.
Any questions, concerns or complaints about the programs, volunteers, buddies or coaches should be addressed to members of the CCCC board or an adult volunteer coach.
The CCCC strives to provide a safe playing environment for all participants. In order to ensure the safety of all participants, parents/guardians/care providers are expected to intercede with their child or participant to prevent an incident from occurring. Additionally, a parent/guardian/care provider may be asked to assist the volunteers with their participant to prevent a dangerous situation. If an incident does occur with a participant, the parent/guardian/care provider may be asked by a volunteer coach to remove the participant from the activity. The CCCC recognizes that incidents will occur. If a participant is involved in three or more incidents that interfere with the safety, health, and enjoyment of other participants, the CCCC retains the right to prohibit the participant from continuing with the activity and request that the parent/guardian/care provider remove the participant from the area.
