Free Athletic Social & Recreation Programs

From its inception, the Cape Cod Challenger Club has provided athletic, recreational and social programs and activities free of charge to any people with disabilities in the community. There are no membership or registration fees and enrollment is open to individuals of all disabilities and ages, and their typical family members.

We provide a welcoming, structured and safe venue for members to participate, as well as all uniforms, equipment and materials for activities, trophies and awards. In the fall we operate an eight-week soccer program, in the winter an eight-week basketball program, and in the spring an eight-week baseball program. Also, during the winter we operate an all-day Saturday program where we pay professionally trained instructors to teach arts & crafts, music, Yoga, and other programs. We provide all snacks and beverages, and lunch during our all-day winter programs for all the participants and their families.

POP- Playing on Purpose

Four Fun & Interactive Parent-Child Play Sessions for families and young children. The sessions include relationship building, emotional literacy, self-regulation and problem solving skills.
  • Understand your child’s social & emotional development
  • Strengthen your relationship with your child; and
  • Learn strategies to make playtime more purposeful for you an your child.
These activities provide the participants a chance to interact socially with their own peers, and typical peers, in an environment where they don’t feel singled out or “different”. It also gives parents and guardians an arena to meet others who may be facing the same challenges in their everyday lives. By providing these programs and activities, the Cape Cod Challenger Club promotes an active lifestyle, adding to the health of the individuals that may not be available to our served population otherwise. The social activity benefit for all participants is also another way of providing healthy lifestyle activities to this overlooked population.

The organization is currently staffed entirely by volunteers and funded solely through charitable contributions, grants, and fundraising events. One hundred percent of the monies raised go directly to fund our programs and activities and are solely for the benefit of our target population. All the funds remain locally here on the Cape. We are a unique organization in that we are committed to providing a typical experience to those participants who may not have these social, recreational and athletic opportunities available to them. We do not receive any federal, state or local agency funding.
